Game Development and Background

Welcome to an immersive and thought-provoking serious game developed by Prof. Florian Kapmeier from the ESB Business School and Prof. Paolo Goncalves from the Università della Svizzera italiana. This groundbreaking game explores the complex interplay between tourism-driven economic growth and environmental degradation in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), using the Maldives as a poignant case study. The core of the game is the WPAS Simulator, which rapidly analyzes the proposed strategies and provides real-time feedback to participants.

This serious game has been successfully facilitated with high school and university students, providing them with a dynamic and interactive learning experience. Through gameplay, participants gain insights into the multifaceted issues surrounding sustainable development, tourism management, and environmental preservation. The game fosters critical thinking, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of the real-world implications of the decisions made in the pursuit of economic growth.
